作家，泛指能以文化創作為業，寫作的人，也特指文學創作上有盛名成就的人。因此，一般能被稱為“作家”者，其作品大都能夠獲得出版發行，歷史悠久。相對於“作者”一詞而言，“作家”一詞的褒義明顯較強，所以這詞很多時候會被用作為一種客套敬稱，或作為一種提高自己身價的標籤，流於溢美，因此，被稱為“作家”的網上寫手、自由撰稿人為數不少。
